What's on your mind today?

What follows is a story.

Scroll to unfold it at your own pace.

When the future feels fragile,
wanting more seems
responsible.

Once there was an ant who worked hard. He collected. He stored up.

And there was a grasshopper who didn’t.

When winter came, the ant survived.

The grasshopper did not.

The moral of this old tale is simple: Gather while you can, so you’ll be safe later.

Wanting more is an instinct.

A protection against an uncertain future.

Every animal carries it.

Even humans.

Especially humans.

The kinds of more we crave seem endless.

" We're afraid of what the future will bring... We're afraid we won't be loved. "

– Lady Bird (2017), Written and Directed by Greta Gerwig

At a fancy party in a billionaire’s home, Kurt Vonnegut turned to Joseph Heller and asked:

“How does it feel knowing our host earned more in a day than your most famous book?”

Joe said, “I’ve got something he can never have.”

“What on earth could that be, Joe?”

“Enough.”

What if life is not defined
by what you have,
even when you have a lot?

"More" promises us security.

But what does Jesus say?

Fear can't secure the future.

"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?" — Jesus

Life is more than accumulation.

"Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes." — Jesus

You are not forgotten.

"God feeds the birds. How much more valuable are you?" — Jesus

Trust reshapes survival.

"Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be given to you." — Jesus

Jesus once told this story:

A rich man eventually had enough.

So much he built more storage to hold it.

Thinking he was finally safe, he slept.

But never woke up.

“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

– Jesus

Did anything here shift how you think about Jesus?

Does more ever feel like enough?

Jesus has a lot to say to people worn out from striving.

If this made you think of a person, send it their way.
